Wow, those look really good!

Definitely agree. Wish there was endpaper art like there was with last years Maelstrom set, but that is ok. Surprised these haven't sold out yet.

I agree, it does look great. I wish there was art inside of this one. I'd love to see someone like Keith Minnion do artwork for some of the scenes in this one. I'd say Chadbourne, but this one doesn't seem like one suited for his style

I was at Half Price Books with my wife a few days ago and picked this up. Decided that since I was there I would see if they had anything by Carver and surprisingly they did have one book by him, and one that I didn't already have. It is in surpringly good condition for a papback published in 1990

Congrats! I won one of these as well. The jacket on mine was severly bent in transit but that is no big deal. I'm actually having trouble getting through this one. It's not a bad story but for whatever reason it isn't "grabbing" me.

The Fleshless Man is on it's way to me. It will be my first book from Dark Fuse! I have enjoyed everything I have read from Mr. Prentiss so I expect this one to be good as well. I am also looking forward to seeing the production values from Dark Fuse.

RJK1981
11-19-2012, 07:49 AM
Started reading this one on top of all the other books I am reading right now and am definitely liking it as expected. I am not terribly impressed with production values from the Delirium/DarkFuse hardcovers I have, which are that one, Burke's 30 Miles South of Dry County, and Gifune's Midnight Solitaire. That isn't to say anything against the stories (I still need to read those othe 2, lol) or anything like that, and also isn't meaning I think they are of poor quality, just that I am not impressed. No artwork on the inside, including the signature pages and the endpapers of all 3 of those are plain white paper, and no dustjacket for any of them. That stuff isn't going to be there for every book, but I would have liked to have something from the list be improved for at least one book, which would have most likely been Midnight Solitaire since it was a larger book than the other two and cost more money. I wouldn't expect much for extras from the Burke or Prentiss books given their small size.

Maybe I am just too used to the quality from publishers like Cemetery Dance, lol. Thunderstorm is another high quality publisher and even though the edition of Nemesis I got had no dustjacket, it did have extras inside the book for not too much more than the current stuff from Delirium/DarkFuse. If I had a lot more money I would probably buy at least a few more books from them, though I have no interest in most of their stuff since I have no clue who a lot of the authors are.

Have 3 packages waiting for me to pick them up tomorrow at the post office, 2 of which should be from CD (More Than Midnight and the last grab bag of 2012), and guessing the other one is another win from Goodreads (Have won 3 recently, including the one that arrived today).

Never heard of the author before, but the book sounded interesting and worth checking out, so I signed up to try and win it and ended up winnng one of the 20 copies from over 950 entries.

Also got the last grab bag of the year that I luckily got since Dan had some extras. I didn't have any extras like a boomerang :( That's okay though really as I am very happy with the selections inside the bag.

Next up are the duplicate items that were in the grab bag. There was a signature page on Blood in Your Ears, but none with Island Funeral. Also already had Pork Pie Hat (Actually already had a spare one even, lol), as well The Doll. I fully expected to get a few duplicates, which is fine. Going to be using them as a gift to my sister's husband-to-be. Going to likely include a copy of Depraved, a true crime book since I accidentally bought a second copy from Half Price Books a little while back, lol. Might find something else to include as well, we'll see though.

Nice grab bag! At first, I couldnt tell what was wrong with the endpapers on Baal. ;)

lol, yeah. I'm sure if you weren't a collector and I didn't mention anything you may not have noticed anything at a glance. When I saw this in the bag and then saw a small ding on the slipcase I was surprised it was included, especially when I saw the price on the dustjacket of $125, but then saw the endpapers and figured it out. Not something that I am worried about though, won't have any effect on reading it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is supposed to look like camo and won't surprised if camo is involved in the book and somewhere on the mountain involved in the story.

Whether the camo involved is meant to look like the endpapers remains to be seen.

Talking about camo makes me think of when I was in Army basic training. Me and the person I was buddied up with on the 3 day exercise where we had to dig out holes to sleep in. We put together such a damn good lean-to that at night the only way we found where we were set up at was to find the locations of the people around us because we absolutely could not find where we were set up at! Even got to catch some extra sleep during the daytime because the drill sergeants couldn't see me inside mine, lol.

Finally received a book I won through Goodreads back in November. Decided to contact the author about it and he realized he'd forgotten to send them out after a family crisis occured and was more important to deal with. Still took a while to get it out to me, but to compensate for taking so long to send the book out to me, he sent another book he thinks I will enjoy. After reading the synopsis of the book I have to agree that I will probably enjoy it as it sounds very interesting.

Exit Reality is actually an ARC, but the only place I see that mentioned is on the copyright page. Don't think I've seen an ARC that didn't say that's what it was right on the cover somewhere before.

Me too, probably my favorite signature since he did that on everything from what I have seen. It's sad that we won't see many new books with that signature :( Won it for $10, which surprised the heck out of me, figured one of the two people I outbid would raise it, but no one did! Didn't even snipe it, though I did watch to see if anyone would bid on it before it ended.

Thanks, I have been looking forward to this release since getting last year's Maelstrom line, lol. If you have the money I would definitely recommend picking up the Maelstrom set of books. The cost is a bit high ($133 with shipping), but you get 3 limited editions. Thunderstorm is a great publisher, probably my 2nd favorite since I definitely can't afford to get enough titles to make it tied with CD as my favorite, lol.

Highbury
11-26-2013, 12:47 PM
What is the page count on each of the maelstrom books? Just curious. I don't think that info is ever on Thunderstorms website.

RJK1981
11-26-2013, 05:16 PM
Well, the smallest book is typically a novella of a little under 100 pages, which is probably about the size as a Cemetery Dances Novella Series title as the Maelstrom titles are bigger in size (Close to the size of a typical trade hardcover), as well as being more limited than the novella series. The other two titles are probably close to 250-400 pages each. The font size is good for reading too, not unusually small like some publishers (The Sinister Grin paperback title I have has pretty small print and I have been told that the hardcovers are of a similar size).

For this year's Maelstrom, The Rising anniv. edition is over 350 pages, the Albatwitches novella is around 90 pages I think, and the Pinborough/Wilson title is just a little under 250 pages.

Instead, when I got home tonight the package was sitting in front of my apartment door! :D If I lived in some areas I have lived in before I may not like that they did that, but I don't have a reason to worry about it where I live now, which is great. I hear a lot sirens here, but I also lived in between a couple hospitals, one of which is like 1 or 2 miles away, so sirens are to be expected.

I hear you. So many great books arrived in the last week or two. Along with being sick I am rethinking what I am going to read next. Nice book. Love my copy.

Nice additions! My copy of Dereliction was damaged, so I won't add it yet (not to worry, I'm getting another copy from CD!).

Nice adds! That Khoury one looks interesting. I have The Last Templar, but have yet to jump into it. It would be a departure from my usual horror/sci-fi, but want to get into that genre more. Plus some James Rollins & Preston/Child.

I really enjoyed The Last Templar. Still have to read The Templar Salvation before I read The Devil's Elixir though as they at least involve some of the same people if it's not a direct sequel. I don't really know if it is or not, but I know they are all in the same series at least. Haven't read anything from Rollins or Preston/Child, but I want to check them out. I have Audible audio books from them, just haven't gotten around to listening to them yet. I eagerly awaiting CD's edition of Relic from Preston/Child right now.

Yes, Relic was one I am sorry I missed on, as I believe it is sold out. I'll still try and track down a copy locally either new at Chapters, or maybe one of the used shops in town.

Yeah, it is sold out, but when it is released you could ask Dan if there are any extras available, as I would guess there'd be some available after everything is mailed out.

Got this in the mail yesterday. Got it from Darkfuse during a recent sale and was able to use a $25 credit towards it as well that I won from them recently. I've been wanting this book for a while now

Agreed, it is sweet and awesome. I did make a mistake though, I got it through Dark Regions, not Darkfuse, lol :p

Really like the cover of this one and find it much better than the trade edition that was published in 2002. This edition is longer than that one too. After a couple of books I got in exchange for reviews I will likely be reading this one.

Does this mean i should have gotten that instead of Shadow of the Dark Angel as a Killercon freebie?
Wasn't there but got it when I bought Dance of the Blue Lady from him.

Don't know, this will be the first book of his that I read as it is the only one I even own. I do plan to get Rusting Chickens and The Blue Heron though when I have more money to purchase them.

Won this through the publisher's Facebook page and got it in the mail a few days ago. Have a few Meikle titles on my Kindle, but this is my first physical book by him

I recently shared the new CD shirt on Facebook mentioning I wish I could afford it. Then, on Monday I got a surprise package from Cemetery Dance. Turns out my parents decided to surprise me with the shirt! :D
