So I figured that instead of having random threads for good deals on books from publishers/book stores, we'd keep it all in one place. (Note: this thread is not for individuals selling books (ebay auctions, etc), please keep all of those posts in the book market thread.)

So here are two good deals that found themselves in my inbox:

The first volume of the Game of Thrones comic, almost half off on pre-order: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/game-of-thrones-george-r-r-martin/1103689416?r=1&ean=9780440423218&cm_em=piotr.riccio@gmail.com&cm_mmc=Targeted-_-Merch-_-120314_TD_NRA_GAME_O_GRAPHIC_THRONES-_-nra22

And PS publishing has an interesting 13 books sale: 13 books for 13 pounds for 13 days, the line-up will change every 13 days. http://www.pspublishing.co.uk/index.asp

peteOcha
03-14-2012, 02:53 PM
And those that live outside of the US and want to pick up the GoT graphic novel while avoiding shipping costs: http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Game-Thrones-Graphic-Novel-One-George-Martin/9780440423218

Dammit, Pete, I went to the site and not oly was PS ocer 13 ahrdcovers of 13 GBP, byut it saidthat if you ordered 2 sets, they'd make sure you got 26 different books! I'm $85 lighter, now...

peteOcha
04-12-2012, 11:03 PM
Sorry Squire.:) But you know you deserve it, you have me drooling over those Easton press books all the time.

I broke down and got a set instead of going for the night shade sale. Crazy price for 13 HC, one of which will be signed, in your case 2!:)

And I'm guessing you're $39 + shipping lighter as well?? :)

Teriw
04-12-2012, 11:18 PM
Actually I have furniture...it's my parents that are gonna need furniture and a washer dryer. they threw there old crappy stuff out and are using my new stuff. Why does the lawn need money? are you too lazy to mow your own lawn pete? I will have no book money when I move though, I keep telling myself I will...but I won't. I am also glad my brothers a plumber. That'll come in handy no doubt.

Wow, shouldn't even be getting into this, but no I am not too lazy to mow my lawn. And that is why it needs money: fertilizer for the grass, gas for the mower, a mower if you don't have one, then from time to time you gotta plant some grass where there's empty spots, and a whole bunch of other things. Of course you don't have to take care of your lawn, so no problem there.

Teriw
04-13-2012, 07:51 AM
I I sure wouldn't have to bother with fertilizer or patching anything. grass tends to grow on its own around here. Lol. I will need a mower and gas though. Maybe not the mower if I buy one of the three houses for sale on this street. Won't need to borrow a truck or rent a moving van either. Lol.

You know you've always dreamed of having a bookshelf in your kitchen! :)

You'll think of something Squire. No more room in the basement?

srboone
04-13-2012, 12:13 PM
Notreally. I've got 10 in the basement already. But I do have one bookshelf in my bedroom mnd the headboard of my bed...

peteOcha
04-13-2012, 12:18 PM
Ok, so that should be good for the 30 or so books you have heading your way. But what will you do after that space runs out?

Anything you can do to reorganize the basement and fit an extra shelf or two in there?

srboone
04-13-2012, 12:25 PM
I've ot a washer and dryer, a treadmill, and a 350 lb desk in corners and against the wall that are taking up as little space as possible, so the basement is out, I think. With the exmpty shelf, and the top of my headboard, that's 3 bookshelves. I'll hopefully have time to think after that.

Just got notice from PS. The books will go out early next week. But I won't get a 'dispatched' notice.:)

peteOcha
04-13-2012, 12:29 PM

Teriw

I've been rambling on talking to a woman via email about stephen king for the last half hour. She may or may not have a copy of the 1978 The Stand in her attic. She is selling it for $10 but she has no idea which one it is because her attic has no stairs until tomorrow. It's killing me. lol. They do; they read Harlequin Romance books to you until you swear off reading (if that doesn't seem to work, they move on to the novels of Susan Sontag) and they force your to sell your book collection at a big rehab rummage sale for 5 cents a book--to people who will move far away! (with the money going to pay the electricity bill for giving you shocks every time you touch a book--a Pavlov's dog kinda thing). It's really rough...

It's pretty much common that mice and other rodents tend to gnaw into paper, regardless of their location.

Not at all Mr Boone - I vividly recall the days when even a single one of the books I'm now fortunate enough to own were far out of my reach, both financially and physically ... It's also a matter of progression, too, I feel, in that no matter how extensive your collection, or how much of your disposable income you're able to invest in its growth, there's always someone else that is doing it bigger, better and more expensively. And, you know something, Mr Boone, it doesn't matter at what stage your collection is at, it's all about the enjoyment you take, personally, from what is yours, big, small or somewhere in between. Sure, it's great to aspire to adding to your collection, taking it to the next level, posting it on a forum such as CD's, etc, however, the important thing is the simple joy of looking at what is yours, be it a single Golden Book or Dr Suess from your childhood, or one of ABE's Top 12 Most Expensive books sales for the month of whatever, to anything in between (which, I guess, is where most of us are at) :)

A friend gave me one while I was in the Navy. On the back he had "Press On" screened onto the back of the shirt, which is the motto of the USS Chancelorsville (my then command). Didn't go over too well with the top brass...

Yep, though at least when I did it last year you were able to choose whatever paperback you wanted I think. May or may not have changed, but if it's still that way you tell them in the notes section of the order page.

If I had more money I woulda gotten more books from them but I did go ahead and purchase Lullaby for the Rain Girl

Have my eyes on a few others but will have to wait on them.

ClydeUmney
07-17-2012, 05:58 PM
And I'd also differentiate the situation. DRP is a book club with 12 books you're definitely going to get, whereas what happened with Darkfuse I thought was mostly just a change in output from 2 a month to one a month with a refund being issued.

RJK1981
07-18-2012, 03:57 AM
Darkfuse's schedule still shows 2 per month. The problem that I know of with Darkfuse is that Shane Staley will no longer be publishing under the Delirium imprint (I thought that ended months ago though) and will publish under the Darkfuse imprint (Which is what I thought he was already doing), which gets him away from thosee annoying lifetime subscriptions that kept him afloat at times. Wonder how long they will be around after pissing customers off with this move. That and based on a lot of what I've read, most of their novella series books are not that great, which can drive customers elsewhere too.

Some of the kind first editions are overpriced. I can get them online or in flea markets much cheaper and in excellent condition...none of the ones on there are rare but some of them were $40-80 which is way too much for newer king firsts.

I'm not sure this a "good" deal but it seems interesting (even with tape on the spine). A magazine dated 1989 with a story from Ronald Kelly.

It does look a bit beat up. There are little dimples in the bottom right hand corner. I made an offer for that and a Brian Hopkins magazine but the seller declined.

There is a great deal on a group of eBooks at HumbleBundle. You get to set the price and choose how much you want to pay and the money goes to charity and/or the authors in any combination you want. The average amount people pay is about $13 for the set, but you can pay less or more if you want. It's mostly SciFi/Fantasy and the authors include Neil Gaiman, John Scalzi, Paolo Bacigalupi, Kelly Link, and others. The eBooks are DRM free and in multiple formats that work on most eReaders and clients. I purchased a set and I figured some of you might be interested as well.

Cool list of books. I always wanted to read Pump Six.

It's crazy how much the original hardback of Pump Six goes for. I see copies for several hundred dollars and I have one the 100 copy signed edition and I've seen it listed (no idea if it sold) for $800. Weird!

Everything that is in stock at Darkregions.com is 50% off from Friday through Sunday. If only I had money to spend on a couple books there...I might have some spending money in December, though I probably won't know that until around the 1st though, which is too late for this sale.

Just ordered a bunch of books. My book club code still worked so they were even cheaper. Plus that $10 credit I got for the Halloween grab bag. Ended up being like 2/3 off.

Sent you an e-mail Dan. Discovered last night my future brothe in-law is a fan of this stuff so I could easily use something from it for a Christmas gift to him, especially if there is a duplicate item from Cemetery Dance in there.

Hey everyone. If you have an e-reader amazon has the great short story collection 999 for only $1.99. This is an awesome collection and a great place to start with some writers you might not have read but would like to. The Lansdale story alone is worth this price.

It has taken me awhile but I do not mind them now. I still prefer to read an actual book. But at some of the deals you really can't beat it. Also with some stuff that is free you can check out new writers and then spend more money on books you don't have.
