View Full Version : Ranking System

Dan Hocker

I'd like to add a ranking system based off of post counts. This would give you a different user category based on the number of posts. What I need from you guys are suggestions for the names of the ranks and the number of posts they would be associated with. They don't have to be regular intervals, but I'm looking for good names in the post count range of 100-5,000. Have fun with it. I'll put together a list of the one's I like the best when I think we have enough good ones.

Good idea! Nice to have something other than senior member!

I'll try and come up with a couple...

but for a post count over 2,000... Just call the rank Grant Wootton. :D

How about this:

Freshly Dead-------up to 100 posts
On the slab------------101 to 250 posts
Embalmed----------251 to 500 posts
Buried--------------501 to 1000 posts
Reanimated--------1001 to 2000 posts

And, of course, the rewards for these levels are coupons of such stupifying savings that at 2,000 Grant and I should've gotten a s/l of our choice! At 3,000 comes an automatic Early Reader/CDCC memebership for a year. And maybe someone's first born at 4,000!

Ok, maybe not that. I don't know what I'd do with it anyway...

srboone
02-17-2012, 09:16 AM
Or perhaps this:

Displaying erratic behaviour------up to 100 posts
Involuntarily committed----------101 to 250 posts
Inmate-----------------------------251 to 500 posts
Receiving daily medication-------501 to 1000 posts
Starting to talk to self------------1001 to 1500 posts
1st rubber room confinement----1501 to 2000 posts
1st electroshock session----------2001 to 2500 posts
Starting to drool incessantly-----2501 to 3000 psots
2nd rubber room confinement-----3001 to 3500 posts
2nd electorchock session----------3501 to 4000 posts
Totally insane----------------------4001 to 5000 posts
Lobotomized-----------------------5000 posts +

You have too much free time at work! All I can manage is a few minutes on the forum... Every few minutes or so!:D

Great ideas Squire!

+ rep for you! (does anyone besides me use this....?? :D )

srboone
02-17-2012, 10:00 AM
Thanks pete. I use it, but I seem to be able to use it only once per person, unless I'm doing it wrong. Every time I try to use it on someone I've given a rep point to, it tells me I must spread the wealth around.

But I'm not at work tonite, Pete. It's a good thing I'm not because some kids are out terrorizing neighborhoods and killing dogs they find outside! I brought my two in for the night and have had my hands full with them!

What's wrong with people???????????

Hmm, I'm gonna look into the rep thing. Someone's getting some rep so I can test it.... lol

Edit: You're hitting the little star at the bottom of the post right? If that's the case I can give rep out more than once, just not more than once to the same post.

Here's the message I get when I try to give someone a second rep point:

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to peteOcha again.

Also, Dan, is there a way to see the rep points we've given? I know how to check the one's I've received.

Must be a user group setting, as I just gave to you twice. I'll check it out, I'll also look into how to see rep points we've given. Although I'm thinking that's something you probably won't be able to see.

Do administrator reps point count for 10???? You just shot me up from 16 to 36!

Dan Hocker
02-17-2012, 02:54 PM
Ok I found the setting. I switched down from 20 to 3. So you have to give to 3 other people before you can give to someone again. I've also changed some other settings around. The longer you've been a member, the more points your rep is worth. The more posts you have, the more points your rep is worth, the more rep you have, the more points your rep is worth. There's a couple other ones as well.

Back to the topic at hand. Lets get some reputation level names as well. It should be a phrase that would fit well after "User is" so for example one of the current ones is (User is) on a distinguished road. I am looking for 3 negative reputation ones (-10, -50, and -100), one neutral reputation (0), and 11 positive (10, 50, 150, 250, 350, 450, 550, 650, 1000, 1500, and 2000). Again have fun with it.

User Is:

-10~ Traveling the Road Less Travelled
-50~ Dangerously close to the edge
-100~Falling from Grace

srboone
02-17-2012, 06:36 PM
The User is:

50:" awake."
10: "responsive to external stimuli."
0: "in stable condition."
-10: "not responding to medication."
-50: "in a serious state of decline."
-100: "useful only for scientific experimentation."

I lost my inspiration for the medical analogy. But I'm still in an "inspired" mood!:)

srboone
02-17-2012, 07:22 PM
The User is:

-100: “Forum Enemy #1!”
-50: “’Wanted’ for various forum offenses!”
-10: “getting a bad reputation!”
0: “fitting in nicely with the forum crowd!”
10: “beginning to get noticed!”
50: “making a name for him/herself!”
150: “distancing him/herself from the pack!”
250: "a standout on the forum!"
350: “setting the standard!”
450: “going the distance!”
550: “leading by example!”
650: “a shining example of forum spirit!”
1000: “raising the bar !”
1500: “striving for forum immortality!”
2000: “a standard bearer of the highest order!”

Well reputation in and of itself doesn't actually effect anything, it's just for fun as far as I'm concerned. As I don't really plan on making it effect anything.

Edit: Worst comes to worst and someone is abusing it, I can take away said individuals ability to give out rep, and fix whoever's rep they messed with, with my super secret admin powers.

And I can give people points?

If you look at the bottom of other people's posts. There's a little star icon. If you click that you can give Positve and Negative reputation to that person for that particular post. So if you make a cool post or something, I can click that and add to your reputation. More reputation points is better. It also goes into the negatives, although I think most people will probably only give out positive reputation points.

Also you will notice that it lists "Rep Power" under your name next to your posts. That shows how many point you giving out reputation is worth. Things like post count, high reputation, being an admin, length of forum membership, and so on, increase your "Rep Power".

Yeah, but to be entirely fair, Squire's had more "genuine" posts than I have ... I upped mine considerably earlier in the piece when I first started posting on my collection thread cos I was having issues on my older type computer when trying to insert multiple pictures of books in a single post (so I found that by posting a single picture at a time it'd not crash on me - then I purchased a new computer and this problem disappeared and would allow me to insert four or five per post). It wasn't intentionally designed to up my post count :o Nope, I definitely have to say the Squire is the uncrowned Post It Kid of CD :D
