You can look at your bookshelves and find several hardbacks that are 30+ years old that you bought new yourself as a teenager when they were first released....

I don't have that problem so much as seeing some of the anniversary reissues. I remember the hub-bub about "The Exorcist" (couldn't read it or see it when it first came out) and that book is 40 years old now. "It" is 25 years old now???!!! I have distinct memories about reading that, and avoiding all the storm drains on the college campus for a full month after I read it. The ending of the book was so nice, but now that I realize it's 25 years later, I'm wondering if the cycle is about to start again.

Yep!! I remember riding several miles on a bike to pick up IT the day it came out. Good times.....You felt like you "earned" that book when it didn't just show up at your door.

My bookshelves are littered with those kinds of books! I still have the first copy of dracula I ever read. It's a kid's adaptation. It's not even an abridged version! (of course the story is told in the form of correspondenses and diary entries--that would not make for a simple abridgement, I guess.)

It's a 6 X 9 92-page paperabck that I bought new at a bookstore in Goodland, KS in 1973 for $1.25.

I'm following you :) I still have my first HC (not 1st edition) of the neverending story (italian edition) dated 1986 IIRC. Illustrated and printed in two colors (one for this world, one for Fantasia. Bound in red velvet, and the first leter of every chapter is illustrated like medieval manuscripts :)

Good to know theres another 25 year old on here. But I do feel so old. I might be 25 but I feel like i am at lest 70. I do feel young when I look at my bookshelf and realize that half of my SK books were printed before I was born.

Books don't make me feel old yet, but certain music does. Dave Matthew's Band's Crash makes me feel old when I hear it because I remember being in Jr. High when that was first on the radio (I'm 30)

50 is still very young. And someone mentioned Dave Matthews from high school? Where were you when John Bonham died? Or how about remembering when "Hotel California" was released? Followed closely by "Rumours". And, God, wasn't Boston's first album right about that time too. Radio was once so great.

Being not quite 50 the one that sticks out to me was when Bon Scott died. I was on my way to a friends house after school and Highway to Hell was playing, when the song ended there was a moment and the DJ came on and announced that he had died.

Better not be - I'm six weeks away for this ... landmark ... and, thus far, most of the faculties still function not too badly, still have my own hair, teeth and most of my internal organs, don't have the urge to collect cats or teaspoons from foreign countries, play lawn bowls, bake scones, garden, dye the gray, pluck excess nose/ear hair on a semi-regular basis, complain about the deviltry in rock music or watch anything on TCM !!!! :p

Oh, Teri, don't be a gloomy gus. I'm quickly approaching that mark, but asides from putting on too many pounds in the past decade or so, I'm feeling quite alright.

Oh another question for the group, to see how old you are... Do you remember where you were when Reagan was shot? I was home sick from school and got to watch the whole thing unfurl on CNN (And that daylong coverage on CNN was a fairly new experience then).

It's alright Mr Boone, Connie (who's 13 years younger than I, and her brother, 2 years younger) watch 98% of TCM and record the other 2% for later viewing :p

First of all, I said Americans know nothing about canada and you are australian.
Secondly, putting the term LAWN in front of it shows its not the same game enough to call it bowling.
Thirdly, is that even a word? Thirdly? If so its a stupid word. Anyway, Thirdly, Have you not heard of 9 Pin Bowling?

(I Didn't mean that rudely, i meant to be funny. People take me the wrong way alot online so just a warning.)
