    Production Update Questions

I've been seeing questions about production updates posted around in different places. I thought I'd start a thread to try and consolidate those in to one place to make it easier for us to find and answer. So post any of your questions about productions updates here.

Also a reminder that the most recent updates can usually be found on the production updates page:

No problem, there really wasn't a specific place before. Usually in the announcement thread for the book, but this consolidates things a bit more and makes it easier to find.

I guess those aren't on the production update page since we haven't added product pages on the site yet. I'll try to do that in August.

They're both coming along. Signature sheets have been signed. The final print run was the maximum of 750 -- that's where we stopped sales on the Book Club.

Hey CD, do you find that there are often cancellations with pre-orders? There is a book I am looking at with interest and wouldn't mind splashing for the lettered but its sold out currently. No it isn't King which would probably have a waiting list thicker than most of his books.

It depends on the book, but there are usually a handful of cancellations on most Limited Editions and one or two on the Lettered Editions. It does vary from title to title, though!

Dan will be able to let you know for sure, but the very last thing we're waiting on is supposed to be on the way to us now!

I'm hoping the last item will arrive this week and to fit the grab into the schedule next week. For anyone who ordered the Mixed Grab Bag that should hopefully start shipping today or tomorrow.

^That's good to know, I'm excited to see what is included. I just hope I don't get any doubles. Any idea what is included or is it different for each customer?

General production question. I noticed that a lot of books have been ready for the printer for a long time. such as Vacation and Screamplays among others. When you do an unannounced book like the King books that you are trying to get out fast does that push the other books back. Do you guys use only one printer or do you have a few?

Books aren't always announced in the order they're done or will be done. Some books are announced earlier in the process and others later. The King books we're publishing this year have been in the works for a LONG time before we announced them.

We used to have a couple of printers, but we only use one now because the others had some misfires we'd rather not repeat. But even if we still used all three, it wouldn't change the schedule. We can only handle so many new books in the warehouse at the same time and there's also the more general issue of balancing cash flow. Lots of things have to be paid for and printing the books is just one small part of our yearly expenses. We could get a lot more done if our employees would win the lottery and work for free. Also, it would help if there was a "tax holiday" for book publishers so we wouldn't be sending a big check to the IRS every quarter, but I don't see that happening any time soon.
